Materials used for insulation

Different materials are used at different places depending on the type of insulation required:

Heat conservation –       Rock wool (for process temp <=550  C)
                                                 Calcium Silicate (inner layer) + Rock wool(outer layer) temp : 551-760 C
Personal protection        Cellular Glass     (for process temp <350 C)
Rock wool           (for process temp < 550 C)
Calcium Silicate (for process temp  : 551 – 760 C)
Calcium Silicate (inner layer) + Rock wool(outer layer) temp : 551-760 C
Heat conservation of electrically traced lines – Rock wool (inner layer) + Polyurethane/ polyisocyanurate (outer layer)
Cold insulation for anti-sweat condition –             cellular glass (RH – 85%)
Polyurethane foam, Polyisocyanurate ( RH -85%, process temp upto (-) 170 C, other than LNG )
Polyurethane foam/Polyisocyanurate inner layer + cellular glass (outer layer) ( RH -85%, process temp upto (-) 170 C, for LNG )
For Nitrogen storage tanks                                          Perlite, vacuum (double walled storage tanks)
Steam Turbine                                                                  Glass wool
