Depending on the requirement and area of application, different types of steam traps are used.
Mechanical Trap – difference in density between steam and condensate
Thermodynamic trap - difference in thermodynamic properties between steam and condensate
Thermostatic trap – difference in temperature between steam and condensate
Float & Thermostatic Traps – Primary applications:
• Heating main drip traps
• Shell & tube heat exchanger
• Tank heaters with modulating temperature regulators
• Unit heaters requiring fast venting
• Steam humidifiers
• Air blast heating coils
• Air pre-heat coils
• Modulating loads
(Application that require fast heating at start up)
Bucket traps : primary applications
• Process main drip traps
• Where condensate is lifted or drains into wet return line
• Drum type roller dryers
• Steam seperators
• Siphon type or tilting kettles
Disc steam trap – thermodynamic trap
Thermostatic bellows type trap – applications
• Radiators, convectors, unit heaters
• Cooking kettles
• Sterilizers
• Heating coils
• Tracer lines
• Evaporators
Testing of steam traps:-
Basic methods for testing a steam trap :
• Ultrasonic test kit
• Sight glass evaluation
• Infrared temperature gun
1 comment:
It is true that there are many varieties of steam traps. Steam trap is very vital for steam engine. It is use to discharge condensate and non condensable gases with a negligible consumption or loss of live steam. Every trap has different use. If you get confuse on choosing a right trap, it's better to ask an expert for further information.
