Important Information on pumps

1. Why there is a reducer at the suction side of a pump?

Reducer at the suction side of the pump is to avoid cavitation and ingress of air pockets into pump.

2. What happens if the clearance between impeller and backplate is more?

More clearance between impeller and back plate doesn't pump more fluid because of fluid circulation in the space.

3. What happens if the clearance between impeller and backplate is less?

Less clearance between impeller and back plate leads to wear of back plate and impeller, if any waste comes inside.

4. Why axial float is measured ?

Axial Float is measured to check the available clearance for impeller to move from suction side to back plate, accordingly the position of impeller is decided.
