Types of Wheels

There are three types of wheels-
1. Pressed steel disc wheel
2. The Wire wheel and
3. Light alloy cast wheel

Pressed steel disc wheel: This type of disc wheel is mostly used in light motor vehicles now a days. The below fig shows a disc wheel which is made of pressed steel. The outer part, called rim, is welded with disc.in some rims, bolt and nut, or rivet is also used. A separate cover is also provided on
wheel disc.Tyre with tube, or tubeless tyre rests on the rim. The steel disc performs the functions of the spokes. A flange is attached to the axle on which the wheel is fitted by bolting to the flange

Wire Wheel:-In this type of wheel, the hub, spoke and rim are made of iron. The wire wheel has a separate hub. Spokes are connected between the hub and rim. Upon this rim, tyre-tube can be used. These wheels are not used in motor vehicles, but they are used in motor cycles and also in certain types of sports cars.

Light alloy cast or forged wheel:- The latest trend is the use of light wheels in the automobiles. These wheels are made from either aluminum or magnesium alloys.
