1901:FIRST REFINERY WAS SET UP AT DIGBOI WITH A SMALL CAPACITY OF 0.5 MMTPA.
TILL INDEPENDENCE DIGBOI REMAINED THE ONLY REFINERY & THE DEMAND WAS MET THROUGH PRODUCT IMPORTS.
AFTER INDEPENDENCE STANDARD VACCUM OIL Co, Burmah Shell & Caltex SET UP REFINERIES

1958 : PUBLIC SECTOR COMPANY ‘INDIAN REFINERIES LTD’ FORMED FOR PRODCUTION.
1959 : INDIAN OIL COMPANY FORMED FOR MARKETING.
MERGED IN 1964 TO FORM INDIAN OIL CORPORATION LTD. THIS DEVOLPMENT LED TO THE COMMISSIONING OF THREE PUBLIC SECTER REFINERIES AT GUWAHATI , BARUANI & KOYALI.
1960 : NATIONALISATION OF REFINERIES.
1962 : IOC , GUWATHI
1964 : IOC ,BARAUNI
1965 : IOC ,KOYALI
1966 : COCHIN REFINERIES LTD (Now Merged with BPCL).
1969 : MADRAS REFINERIES LTD.(CPCL, IOCL Subsidiary)
1974 : HALDIA REFINERY , IOC
1979 : BANGAIGAON
1980-85 : MATHURA REFINERY ,IOC
1996 : MRPL
