MOST EXPENSIVE PIECE OF MILITARY HARDWARE EVER MADE: USS GERALD R. FORD

Set to replace the Nimitz-class of US Navy super-carrier, the newly created USS Gerald R. Ford is similar in physical dimensions to its predecessor - sadly not so in cost. Launched in 2013 (pictured) and set to enter active service in 2016, the estimated delivery cost of the 100,000-ton aircraft carrier has drifted up to $12.8 billion, 22% more than the 2008 budget.
