1. CHALLENGE OR DISCOVERY??
The event challenges the contestant’s ability to design an aerodynamic model
being fully aware of the constraints. The model design will take place in THREE
stages. Stage one is the making of the launcher. It involves simple
materials like PVC pipes, PVC glue and M-Seal. Stage two involves the making of
the rocket. Here we will be using PET bottles, tape and card board/This is an
important stage as the contestant’s creativity and the understanding of basic
concepts will be tested. Stage three involves the making of a suitable parachute
and the mechanism of safe landing. The materials used will be plastic sheet of
any grade/garbage bag sheet and threads. This tests the contestant’s ability to
think innovatively and come up with a parachute design that is feasible and
helps in safe landing.
Mode of conduct:
The participants will be given a brief idea about the methodology in making
a bottle rocket. It will be followed by hands on workshop that will be
supervised by the coordinators. There will be a discussion on the different
parameters to increase the efficacy of the model. The workshop will be held for
three days where in each day is allotted for one part of the rocket. The trials
will be held 3 to 4 hours before the event.
Judging criteria:
- Safety of payload (40%)
- Time of flight (25%)
- Design of the rocket (10%)
- Efficiency of the launcher (13%)
- Creativity/Innovation (12%)
2. BALLISTAE
This event is aimed to build a
mechanical design or a resembling structure of a working TREBUCHET.
Event Details
Round 1 (Damage Radius)
- In this round every team will be given three chances each to shoot the ball as far as possible and the points shall be awarded according to the maximum distance covered.
Round 2 (Break a Castle)
- In this round, the teams have to fire their balls on a castle placed at a certain distance and three chances will be given to do it.
- Points shall be awarded on the basis of the damage done to the castle.
Round 3 (Hit the Bull's-eye)
- In this round con-centric circles will be marked with points, inner circles having higher points, the teams will be given points for the region in which the ball hits.
- Also teams will be rewarded extra points if their teammate standing inside the circle will catch the ball.
Round 4 (Warfare)
- This is most interesting round, in which 2 teams will be facing each other for a trebuchet war, the teams will have to hit each other with water balloons as many times as possible in a limited time-frame.
- Points will be awarded for every water balloon hitting the opponent.
- Winners will be announced after this round on the basis of total points obtained.
Rules and Regulations:
- CATAPULTS Are Not Allowed. Make sure you make a Trebuchet and not a catapult.
- No readymade mechanisms are allowed to use.
- Cosco tennis balls will be provided as payloads.
- Winner will be decided on the total points obtained in all 4 rounds.
Design specifications:
- Max Base = 100*65 cm (approx.)
- Max Height of arm supporting rod = 100 cm (approx.)
- Max length of the throwing Arm rod = 180cm (approx.)
Judging Criteria
- Aesthetic look, Ease of Use, Concepts used. (30 points)
- Distance fired (Round 1 - 60 points)
- Force of impact (Round 2 - 60 points)
- Accuracy (Round 3 - 100 points)
- Warfare (Round 4 - 100 points)
